The Mormon Kid

Matt Warner from Ephraim, UT from the late 1800s is named as an outlaw of the old west. He was born in Ephraim and at the age of 14 he badly beaten another kid fighting over some girl. He then left to Vernal because he thought he killed him. So he got a job as a herder in some ranch in Vernal. He then at the age of 20 settled there and got his own house and farm where he turned it a gamble and drinking place. He started to steal cattle and rob banks with Butch Cassidy and John McCarty all over Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado. He, Butch Cassidy, and John McCarty robbed a big bank in Telluride, CO. He also won a gunfight against a Mexican but nursed him back to health at his home. They called him "The Mormon Kid". Later on in 1897, he got caught and got arrested. Matt Warner was sent to prison and was pardoned by the Governor in 1900. He then became a Lawman in Price, UT and started to things right. He got married and led a happy life in Carbon County.

That is a very interesting story. I can't believe a real outlaw from Ephraim! I guess that is why he finally turned his life around....he came from good roots!
