Navajo Lake and Kanarraville Falls
I went down to Navajo Lake to meet my brother's family. Navajo Lake is in Cedar City Canyon near Duck Creek. I went earlier so I can do a bike ride around the lake.
The trail itself is around 12 miles with 900 feet elevation gain.
I'm impressed with this trail because the Forest Service keep this trail maintained and the dead fall cleared up.
It's a lot of up and down hilly riding with a 1.5 mile climb at first. I enjoyed this trail very much and loved it. Very scenic and no one else there. I only saw one other mountain biker but it was at the trail head. But I didn't see anyone else at all while riding the trail.
Pretty cool lava rocks in the area and at 9,000 feet, very cool.
Pretty.
My brother came around 7:30ish and we camped at the campground there. We got a very nice campground.
The next morning, we drove down to Cedar City and hiked Kanarraville Falls.
It's a pretty crowded trail with a lot of other people on it.
....we didn't seem to mind it though. It was very hot and the first part of it, we had to do a lot of climbing to get to the canyon.
We fiinally got into the river. Very cold! But it felt nice on a hot day.
Going in the slot canyon.
All of us.
The first water fall.
This is the turn around spot.
Pretty cool!
When we got back, we were tired and had a picnic at the trail head. I went home after that, but my brother's family went back up to Navajo Lake and stayed another night to do more stuff. I wish I went up with them though. I still had a fun little trip.
First Part of Summer
During first part of June, I drove my truck up to the top to check out the snow.
There was a lot of snow up there and there still is now.
One afternoon, Duke and I hiked up Pioneer Trail.
It's pretty hairy going down it on a mountain bike but it's a delight for a hiking trail.
I love to use the Pioneer Trail as a hiking trail. Very pretty and shady for the summer months and a good workout going up.
One weekend I rode on Payson Four Bay Trails. I did a short ride and I really liked the trails.
I bought lights for the back deck and they look very nice. I think later this summer I am going to take the wood railing off and replace it with either metal or vinyl railing. I really want to metal but it's like double in price but for the long way, it will sure last longer than vinyl. I haven't decided yet. Down the road, I might refinish the deck also.
I did a ride towards Ax Handle Canyon in the west mountains but I didn't go into Ax Handle Canyon, I will go into it another day.
I cut my tire with a gate in the west mountains. The air blew out so I got a Gu Chew wrapper and patched the hole and put a tube in the tire. It worked wonderfully, I rode for another 2 hours after that.
Bella got shaved and she doesn't look like a Border Collie anymore.
You're not supposed to shave Border Collies because it would mess up their shedding but it needed to be done because she was all matted up bad. I'll bet she feels a lot cooler though.
On July 4th weekend, I rode up the top of Payson Canyon on the Blackhawk Trail.
It was pretty hard and I was struggling but I made it. It took me 3 hours to finish the ride. I loved the adventure though. It was very pretty.
Then on that Sunday, I took Jeri and Duke up the GBEEC trail for a hike. Very pretty but a lot of people on the road going up it and down it.
But then the trail was very peaceful and beautiful.
On Monday on July 4th weekend, I took my mom up canoeing on Cleveland Reservoir at the top of Fairview Canyon.
She's been asking me for the past year to take her canoeing and all she wanted to do was to paddle up to the middle of the lake and just sit for a long time. So that's what we did. It was very nice.
On the morning of July 4th, I went on an easy to moderate ride on my road bike around Gunnison and Mayfield area. It was a good 34 miles.
Later that night, we did a BBQ and fireworks at my brother's house.
It was a good show and Jeri didn't seem to mind the fireworks. Duke is very terrified of fireworks.
Another day in the shop. Stainy the cat and Bella cooling off in the shop on a hot day.
Yesterday, I went on day trip to Park City. But this time, I went to Kamas to check out some new trails there. They are at High Star Ranch.
Good climbing and lot's of switchbacks....like a million of them.
On the way down I took the downhill-only trails and they were at full blast.
Finally today, I took Duke on another Sunday hike up the GBEEC trail again. Less people on the road this time to there and back.
I call this portrait, "Not a Care in this World".
