My mom has been bugging me in the past little while that I need to lose a few pounds. I did some math figuring out what my ideal weight should be, so I can go faster on my bike.
Here'a some math:
Figuring out my baseline weight- 106 pounds for the first 5 feet of height +6 pounds for each additional inch.
So it's 106 plus (my height 72 inches minus 60 inches =12, so it's 12 times 6 is 72) so 106+72=178 is my baseline weight.
Now my wrist size is 7 and a half inches and the rule is add 10% which is the ideal weight (according to a chart I looked at).
So, My ideal wieght is 195 pounds. I am now 233 pounds and body fat is 31% which considers obese. Healthy body fat percentage is for men is 10=25%.
I did some other math:
Here is some math figuring out my ideal weight by using body fat percentage-
Current weight(233)xbody fat percentage(31%)=72.23(pounds of body fat)
Current weight(233)-pounds of body fat(72.23)=160.77(Lean body mass)
Now 1.00-the percentage of body fat you want to be(I say I want to have 20% of body fat)0.20=0.80
At last, lean body mass(160.77)divided by 0.80=200.96 pounds
So my ideal weight is 200 pounds if I want 20% of body fat. I figured it backwards how much body fat I would have if I was down to 195 and it is 17% which is good!
Well, so I got to lose 30 or so pounds to get to my ideal weight. A couple years ago I went from 230 pounds to 208 pounds and looked pretty good and biked a lot better on climbs. But I slowly gained it back it up over the years. Now I have to start all over again and figure out some hell of a way to maintain it. It's going to be hard! Just keep biking and eat nutritiously.

Desert Rampage 2012
This year's Desert Rampage race in St. George turned out to be a fun race, well, ride. It was
a beautiful day to start with. Nice, clear sky and hardly any wind. There were quite a few people this year and I did the beginner class instead of clydesdale because I only wanted to do one lap. At the beginning of the race, I was keeping up with everybody and passed a few people then at the beginning of the climb, like in that picture on the right is where I got a flat tire. First I filled up the tire with a co2 pump and expected the sealant to work but it didn't, it got flat again. Everybody passed by and there I was with a flat. I got out my tube and checked my tire there was this nail in it(picture below) and all the sealant was dried up. Crap. So anyway, it took me like 20 minutes to put a tube in it, I got to learn to do it faster but I didn't really rush because it was just a dumb race anyway. So I got on the bike again and just rode. I still had fun and finished it.

Backyard Blitz
It's official. These trails are the ones I ride on right in the mountains behind my house. The Maple Syrup....I built. I also did a lot of help on the trail work on the Pioneer and a little work on The Flume. These trails are also shared with motor bikers. These trails are a blast and the scenery is beautiful. I call it my home. This is a good map somebody locally made, check out http://sanpete.com/pages/bike ..... or...... http://www.blazeofgloryoffroad.com/2011/07/ephraim-canyon-singletrack-trail-mtn.html ...... or.....http://utahmountainbiking.com/ for more information, pictures, and directions.

This one's interesting...

Ok, since I am not doing much and sitting around the house(yeah, it's winter) most of the time. I am having the privilege to surf the internet more. utahmountainbiking.com is one of my favorite websites, probably the only website to do some trail researching in the state of Utah. So this trail caught my eye, called Strawberry Narrows Trail. It is located at Strawberry Reservoir south of Heber City, UT. This looks great because of the scenery and it's 24 miles long. I am starting to like these kind of trails, this trail reminded me of the Good Water Rim Trail I did last fall but this has trees and water down below instead of rocks. This would definitely be a good summer trail.

An out-and-back trail with 12 miles one way and has a total 2,400 vertical, with lot's of rolling hills. Sounds perfect, and I love these pictures. I hope I won't be disappointed after I ride this because when I travel this far to a trail, I expect a good fun trail. An overnight camping trip at the campsite might not be a bad idea and I can ask my dad to come with me since he likes to go camping once a while. It's only 2 hours away though if you take a dirt road short-cut from Spanish Fork Canyon. I hope the road is good enough for my Subaru though. I'll have to ask around. This trail definitely looks like it takes the cake!

Ok, I'll do it this time...
For a long time, like in the past few years, I've always planned to go down to Bryce Canyon or Brian Head to do some trails I really wanted to do but never got the chance to but don't ever know why. This year, I will make that goal again. I'm going to do it! They are just short trails but I really want to do them. I've never seen Bryce Canyon
and there's a chance this summer. I've been to Brian Head before many times on my bike but wanted to do these trails I haven't done for a long time. Here's the four trails I really want to do and my goal is to at least to do two of them!

Cassidy-Lossee Loop, Bryce Canyon, UT(world class!)

Lowder Ponds Loop, Brian Head, UT

Scout Camp Loop, Brian Head, UT
(I have done this trail many times at the bike races years ago, but want to do it again)

Well, I was just checking out maps and trails in some cool mountain biking website and pretty sure these are the trails I really want to do this summer. Brian Head is the least favorite. I don't really have much interest in Park City, UT riding in any other areas close to that this year. I will still ride there for bike races and such, and I want to do some Southern Utah high plateaus kind of riding this year. There are less crowds in southern Utah and they do look like great trails to do for a change.

Atomic ride in St. George
On the morning of January 28th, it was a brittle cold of 9 degrees here in Ephraim. I wasn't worried about it because I was heading down south to ride bikes! My mom and I headed down to St. George on my Subaru with our heated seats and listened to book on tape all the way down. After 3 hours or so, we were down there and it was nice of 54 degrees, I couldn't wait to do some riding and I started on the Santa Clara trailhead and rode a good 3 hours.
First, I did the Connector trail that climbed up the Barrel Roll trailhead because the road is not a very fun road to ride on for a car. After 1.5 miles, I was ready to roll! I did Sidewinder, Barrel Roll, then all the Rim trails. Rim Reaper, Rim Rambler, Rim Rock, and Rim Runner.
....Top of Sidewinder(my favorite climb!)
....technical section of Barrel Roll
Rim Rock....
The Connector, Sidewinder, and Barrel Roll took me an hour and a half and all the Rim trails took me another hour. So total miles: 19.30 miles and total time: 2.5 hours
I had a real blast and so far this was my favorite ride in St. George! My mom stole my car while I was on my ride and took a walk in the nice weather, and also read a book. We ate at Applebees in Cedar City on the way home and continued to listen the book on tape. She said she enjoys the drive down and to be in the warm weather. I enjoyed riding by bike around and we were all happy. What a great day trip!

2012 ICUP/USCS/UCA Mountain Bike Race Schedule
2012 is here and time to start a new year! This year, I plan to do a few races. Hope I can because last year turned out to be a nightmare. I was burned out by spring last year which ruined my season and ended up doing only 2 races. This year, I tried not to ride as hard in the winter and take it easy. The only hard rides I did this off season was the 3 St. George trips but none of any kind of training at home. I feel better now and hope I can finish good this season. Here's my race schedule for this year for mostly ICUP and 2 USCS and 1 UCA races I might want to do. I won't do them all but I want to do at least 4 or 5 of them this year or maybe more would be good. I signed up to be in the Mad Dog Cycles Race Team again this year and signed up for a 3 race commitment. My race schedule:March 3-Green Valley, St. George, UT
April 7-Green Valley, St. George, UT
April 28-Lambert Park, Alpine, UT (USCS)
May 5-Five Mile Pass, Lehi, UT
May 12-Sundance Resort
May 19-Soldier Hollow, Heber City, UT
May 28-Draper, UT
June 9-Deer Valley Resort(UCA)
June 23-Round Valley, Park City, UT (USCS)
June 30-Sherwood Hills, Logan, UT
July 7-Snowbird Resort
July 28-Solitude Resort
August 4-Snowbasin Resort
Here's to a good season, hope I can do at least 3!
